The Taking of Annie Thorne - C.J. Tudor

One night, Annie disappeared.

There were searches, appeals. Everyone thought the worst.

And then, after 48 hours, she came back.

But she couldn't - or wouldn't - say what had happened to her.

Something happened to my sister. I can't explain what.

I just know that when she came back, she wasn't the same.

She wasn't my Annie.

I didn't want to admit, even to myself, that sometimes I was scared to death of my own little sister.

Genre: Thriller

Rating: 4.5/5

Favourite Quotes: "It's the sort of village that glowers at you when arrive and spits on the ground in disgust as you leave."

"I do believe you can still feel the echoes of bad things."

"Broken hearts don't mend. Time just takes the pieces and grinds them to dust."

"Shadows are never just shadows. They are the deepest part of the darkness."

"The past isn't real. It is simply a story we tell ourselves. And sometimes we lie."

Review:

The Taking of Annie Thorne is another winner from author C.J. Tudor and centers around Joe who returns to his childhood home with revenge on his mind. When he was a teenager, his little sister went missing and he would have given anything to see her again. Yet, when she came back, she was...different. Now, Joe is back to confront the so-called friends he holds responsible, determined to get to the bottom of what happened. This is a compelling read, and the way the author has created the vibe of this small town is perfect. You feel like you need to constantly look over your shoulder. The characters are mostly abhorrent individuals, which only makes it harder to work out who knows what. Even the MC is deeply flawed, yet you still back him because he's essentially driven by the love he has for his sister.
